Game Play
1) NEW! NFHS 2015(LINK) modified rules:

  • New “over and back” rule, which states that the offensive team may not carry, pass or propel the ball into its defensive half of the field once it has been advanced into the goal area. An infraction will result in a turnover or play-on.  In simpler terms, once the ball is established as touching it in the box, it may not go back court or its a turnover.
  • Face-off mechanics are now like college pre-whistle, players will go to the face-off position with their crosses properly placed. If the official is satisfied with the position, then the ball will be placed between the crosses for the face-off.   Previously, the ball was placed on the ground first. Players are still required to remain motionless in the correct position after the official says “set” and until the whistle is blown.
  • Face-off player cannot take more than one step in getting the ball out of his stick.  He may no longer run down the field with the ball stuck in his crosse.

2) NO “Horns” on sideline out of bounds plays. On substitutions "on the FLY"

3) 4 second for goalie in crease

4) Face-off after every goal - Face off cadence is DOWN, SET, WHISTLE

5) Flag down - Play on until defense touches the ball or goes out of bounds

6) Change of Possession Offsides- Ball is re-started at location when whistle was blown

7) Any crosse used in a face-off may not have tape on the plastic throat of the head.

8) Eye shade that is not a solid stroke or includes words, numbers logos or other symbols within the eye shade is prohibited.

IF there is a major problem or emergency with a coach, player, parent or fan – please call Lee Ann McLoughlin 609.760.3121.
